Why Lab exists because I needed it to. Here's the honest version of how it came to be — and why I believe so deeply in what we're building.

I spent years working at the sharp end of big business. Large-scale transformation programs. Digital disruption. Multi-million dollar change initiatives at PwC and Fairfax. And intellectually, it was stimulating. But when I stopped and asked myself what I was most proud of, the answer was never the program. It was always the person.

It was watching one of my team members win the national sales award. Seeing a grad at PwC grow from nervous newcomer into a genuinely kick-ass consultant. The moment a client had a breakthrough they didn't think was possible. Those were my wins. Not the numbers. The people.

That's when I understood my why. I'm not built for scale for scale's sake. I'm built to enact change at a personal level — to sit alongside someone and help them see what's possible, then build toward it with intention.

Why I built Why Lab
Two whys. One business.

When my son was born, something shifted. I didn't want to step back from work — I love what I do. But I wanted to be present. I wanted flexibility. I wanted to build something that worked around my life, not the other way around. I realised I was a liberator at heart — someone who needs to know the business can work without consuming every hour I have.

That's why I bought into The Alternative Board. And I love it — genuinely. Working with business owners, helping them think strategically, watching their businesses grow through peer advisory, executive coaching and leadership programs like StratPro and Hi-MAP. It absolutely feeds my purpose. But TAB requires my time, my presence, my energy. It's the operator in me satisfied. The liberator? Not quite.
